Explore Lanzarote
Lanzarote despite being located so far off Spain is actually one of the Canary Islands. It is an island with a rich, cultural past evident in its many museums, archaeological sites and art galleries. César Manrique a painter, sculptor and architect was instrumental in the sympathetic development of tourism on Lanzarote and as a result there are no high rise buildings on the island. All buildings are white with green, brown or blue paintwork reflecting the natural intrinsic beauty of the island. As with the other Canary Islands, Lanzarote is volcanic in origin. Many parts of the island appear to be from another world, often described as Lunar or Martian you can see breathtaking examples of this phenomenon on a visit to the Timanfaya National Park.
The small island of La Graciosa is easily accessible by ferry from Orzola in the north of the Island and several excursions provide day-trips to the little island of Los Lobos.
Lanzarote does not have the frenzied night life scene of Tenerife but there is still plenty of entertainment to suit most tastes. Puerto del Carmen has the most vibrant nightlife with many nightspots open until dawn. The smaller resorts tend to be more sedate with many hotels providing entertainment.
