Holidays in Lanzarote
Despite the Volcanic nature of the island, Lanzarote has several beautiful beaches from the white beaches at Playa Blanca and Papagayo to the black sands at Playa Quemada, you will be amazed at the contrast.
The main beach in Puerto Del Carmen stretches along the busy resort. There are many beaches running right through to the old town of Puerto Del Carmen. Playa Chica offers a wide variety of sporting activities including jet skiing, para-sailing and snorkeling.
In the South of the Island near the resort of Playa Blanca are the most beautiful beaches on the island with many amenities and beach bars providing day long refreshments.
The main beach in Costa Teguise is known as Las Cucharas and is popular with the windsurfing brigade.
Arrecife, Lanzarote's capital, has a wonderful golden beach lined with coconut palms. This beach runs alongside a number of bars where tourists and locals can relax and watch the world go by.
Lanzarote despite being located so far off Spain is actually one of the Canary Islands. It is an island with a rich, cultural past evident in its many museums, archaeological sites and art galleries. César Manrique a painter, sculptor and architect was instrumental in the sympathetic development of tourism on Lanzarote and as a result there are no high rise buildings on the island. All buildings are white with green, brown or blue paintwork reflecting the natural intrinsic beauty of the island. As with the other Canary Islands, Lanzarote is volcanic in origin. Many parts of the island appear to be from another world, often described as Lunar or Martian you can see breathtaking examples of this phenomenon on a visit to the Timanfaya National Park.
The small island of La Graciosa is easily accessible by ferry from Orzola in the north of the Island and several excursions provide day-trips to the little island of Los Lobos.
Lanzarote does not have the frenzied night life scene of Tenerife but there is still plenty of entertainment to suit most tastes. Puerto del Carmen has the most vibrant nightlife with many nightspots open until dawn. The smaller resorts tend to be more sedate with many hotels providing entertainment.
