Those islands located in the Atlantic Ocean just 100km off the coast of Africa, include the famous and largest island of Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, La Palma and several other smaller islands. One of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe, the Canary Islands offer a holiday in the sun with beaches, nightlife, shopping and some impressive natural attractions such as the Teide National Park.
Where to go?
The main resorts of Playa Blanca, Santa Cruz, Las Palmas and Morro Jable offer good nighlife and shopping opportunities. Lanzarote and Tenerife are probably the liveliest islands when it comes to nightlife, with everything from bars and pubs to large nightclubs. If you're looking for a quieter holiday, islands like La Palma is a good choice.
What to see?
Much of what there is to see while on a holiday in the Canary Islands is just about the natural beauty the islands offer away from the busier tourist resorts. Along with its national parks that offer some quite incredible scenery and important natural landmarks like Mount Teide that you can see in Tenerife there are also unique natural attractions like the Cueva de los Verdes (Green’s Cave) in Lanzarote, which is a succession of caves and tunnels formed by lava. If you are feeling even more adventurous then some of the smaller islands are well worth exploring such as El Hierro, which is a great place to relax among nature as well home to some of the best scuba diving spots for its marine life, or there is also La Gomera known as a walker’s paradise for its natural beauty including the La Garajonay National Park.
Depending on where you choose to spend a holiday there will be a number of great attractions to visit such as the Teide National Park set around Mount Teide (the world’s 3rd largest volcano), theme parks like the Siam Water Park and not forgetting Loro Parque (Parrot Park), which is home to the world’ most important collection of parrots with over 300 species, and that’s just in Tenerife
